เด็กอ่านไม่ออกค่อนประเทศ ต้องทำอย่างไร
นักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาอ่านหนังสือไม่ออก กลายเป็นประเด็นใหญ่ในสถานศึกษาจำนวนมาก เมื่อปี 2558 กระทรวงศึกษาฯ ยอมรับว่ามีเด็กในโรงเรียนที่อ่านหนังสือไม่คล่อง (แปลว่าอ่านไม่ออก) อยู่ประมาณร้อยละ 33 ของนักเรียนประถมทั้งหมด นั่นหมายถึงว่า นักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษา (ป.1-6) ทั้งประเทศรวมกันประมาณ 5,400,000 คน ที่อ่านไม่คล่องในความหมายของกระทรวงศึกษาฯ จึงอยู่ที่จำนวน 1,782,000 คน
นี่เชื่อตามที่กระทรวงศึกษาฯ บอก ซึ่งในความจริง จากการลงพื้นที่ทำงานของสมาคมไทสร้างสรรค์ ในพื้นที่ภาคเหนือ ภาคกลางและภาคอีสานในเขตนอกเมืองและชนบท เราพบว่าตัวเลขมันมากมายกว่านั้นมาก จนเรียกได้ว่า เห็นตัวเลขแล้วสยองกันเลยทีเดียว เราพบเด็กที่กำลังเรียนอยู่ชั้นป.5-6 อ่านหนังสือนิทานสำหรับเด็กเล็กอย่างยากลำบาก บางคนเรียกว่าแทบไม่ออก และส่วนหนึ่งอ่านไม่ได้เลย ทำให้เราพบตัวเลขเด็กอ่านไม่ได้จากการทำงานในพื้นที่เขตชนบทสวนทางกับตัวเลขของกระทรวงศึกษาอย่างสิ้นเชิง เพราะพบเด็กที่อ่านได้คล่องตามที่ควรจะเป็นเพียงร้อยละ 20 เท่านั้น !
โครงการ ‘สร้างนักอ่าน’ เกิดขึ้นจากหลักคิดเดียวคือ ต้องการให้มีคนอ่านหนังสือภาพให้เด็กวัย 1-4 ขวบฟังเป็นประจำ สม่ำเสมอและมีความถี่ เพื่อพาเด็กๆ ไปสู่เป้าหมายของการฟังหนังสือ 1,000 ครั้งเป็นอย่างต่ำ เพื่อให้เด็กมีคำศัพท์ มีประสบการณ์หรือบทเรียนจากตัวละคร รู้จักและเข้าใจความแตกต่าง มีทักษะใน
การจดจ่อ มีสมาธิ มีคำศัพท์ที่หลากหลาย ฯลฯ ติดตัวมาด้วยเมื่อเข้าสู่ศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กเล็กหรือชั้นอนุบาล จนกระทั่งพกเป็นต้นทุนติดตัวขึ้นชั้น ป.1 เมื่อต้องเรียนเขียน-อ่าน และเพื่อให้โครงการดำเนินไปได้ด้วยดี เราจำเป็นต้องหา ‘นักอ่าน’เพื่อทำหน้าที่อ่านหนังสือให้เด็กฟัง โครงการจึงมุ่งหานักอ่านจากเด็กชั้น ป.5-6 จากหมู่บ้านในชนบท เพื่อเดินไปตามบ้านและทำหน้าที่อ่านหนังสือให้น้องฟังเป็นประจำ สม่ำเสมอและต้องมีความถี่ แล้วเราก็พบว่าเด็กชั้นประถมที่ปัญหาด้านการอ่านอย่างหนักหน่วงดังที่กล่าวมาข้างต้น
